Community Gathered for Fall Festival as Rising Costs Made Thanksgiving More Expensive for Michigan Families
Michigan Families for Fair Care and State Representative Donavan McKinney hosted a Fall Festival on Friday featuring a turkey giveaway and resource giveaway to support families struggling with the rising cost of living. As grocery prices have continued to climb due to tariffs and families face increasing financial pressure heading into the holiday season, the event provided free turkeys and connected residents with essential community resources at a time when Thanksgiving has become more expensive this year for working families.
"This event was about stepping up when our community needed it most," said Michigan State Representative Donavan McKinney. "Michigan families are being squeezed from every direction—tariffs have driven up the cost of groceries, making everything on the Thanksgiving table more expensive. Families shouldn't have to rely on turkey giveaways to afford Thanksgiving dinner. We're here today to help our neighbors get through the holiday season, and address the concerns making it harder for Michigan families to put food on the table."
The event came as Michigan families face the impact of tariffs that have increased costs on everyday goods. Republicans in Congress have voted to shield these tariffs. Residents can learn more about how tariffs and other policies are raising costs by staying up to date on our events and collaborations.
