Community Gathers for Charity Basketball Game as Families Discuss Rising Costs This Year

Michigan Families for Fair Care hosted a charity basketball game on Saturday, bringing together Warren-area residents to discuss the economic challenges facing families in Michigan's 10th Congressional District, where rising costs for healthcare, food, and everyday goods have strained household budgets during the most expensive time of the year.

"I came to support the community and talk with neighbors about what we're all facing. Every family here is dealing with the same thing—everything costs more, but our paychecks aren't keeping up," said State Representative Donavan McKinney. "Working families are paying more while their purchasing power shrinks. Which is why it is important to hold events like this now more than ever."

The community event featured conversations with residents about the affordability crisis impacting working families, from healthcare premiums set to more than double to holiday shopping costs that jumped 26% this year. With Congress failing to act on tariffs, and Congressmen John James and Tom Barrett voting in favor of the Republican Tax Law, which gave tax cuts to billionaires, prices are going to continue edging higher and higher.
