Congressmen Barrett and James Must Vote to Bring Back ACA Tax Credits Before Thousands Lose Coverage

Michigan Families for Fair Care is calling on Congressmen Tom Barrett and John James to immediately vote in favor of bringing back the critical ACA tax credits for the next three years. Because of Republican inaction from the likes of Rep. John James and Tom Barrrett,  more than 70,000 people across Michigan's 7th and 10th Congressional Districts have seen their premiums increase, in some cases more than a 114% increase

"Congressman James keeps talking about helping Michigan families, but now he has to prove it with his vote," said MI-10 resident Rebecca Zainos. "Congresman James, we need you to support bringing back the ACA tax credits and give families a chance to afford healthcare. The alternative is to side with those who don't want to see us succeed. People in our city are already making impossible choices to skip medications or buy groceries. See the doctor or pay rent. For those of us living with disabilities, or chronic health conditions, affordable healthcare isn't a luxury or a political talking point. It's what keeps us alive."

Action must be taken to right this injustice, but instead Congressman Barrett and James decided to do nothing and now costs have gone up for their constituents. Constituents have held events, and community conversations so that Michigan families can stand together and hold their congressmen accountable for increasing their healthcare costs.

"Congressman Barrett has a choice to make: stand with the thousands of Michigan families in their districts who depend on affordable healthcare, or sweep those concerns under the rug for special interests," said MI-07 resident, Diane Holland. “This isn't complicated—vote in favor of bringing back the ACA tax credits, and make healthcare affordable. Every day they wait, more families are forced to choose between healthcare and putting food on the table. This is an opportunity to do right for people with chronic conditions, cancer, or disabilities. This is literally a matter of life and death."
