Huizenga, James, And Barrett’s Past Votes Are Responsible For Your Skyrocketing Gas Prices
Across Michigan, working families are suffering the consequences of policies supported by their Republican representatives. Last week, Congressmen Bill Huizenga (MI-4), and John James (MI-10) voted to continue the costly engagement in Iran that has led to the highest gas prices in years. Now, Michigan families are facing even higher gas prices than the national average, and drivers in the state are paying $1.66 more per gallon than they did this time last year.
In Lansing, which Tom Barrett (MI-07) represents, saw gas prices hovering around $5 a gallon this week. In Macomb County, which John James represents, the average cost of gas is $4.80 a gallon, and in Kalamazoo in Bill Huizenga’s district, the average price per gallon is $4.89.
“I was already being stretched thin before gas prices went up for every trip to work, every school run, every errand costs more than it used to, and there's just not enough left at the end of the month to absorb another hit like this.” said Rebecca, MI-10 resident. “Congressman James supported cost rising policies, and Michigan families are left paying the price. He needs to fight to lower gas prices and stop voting for actions that are driving up costs on working people.”
"When gas prices go up, everything goes up, the trucks that stock grocery shelves, the farmers who grow the food, the delivery drivers who keep stores running. I’m already struggling, and these rising costs are going to make it even harder to put food on the table,” said Kelsea, MI-07 resident. “Congressman Barrett has yet to take meaningful action to lower costs for the people he represents, he's been silent even when we’ve asked his office directly. It's time for him to stand up for MI-07 families and give them a fighting chance to live successful lives."
Residents of Michigan’s 4th, 10th, and 7th districts are hurting, and Representatives Huizenga, James, and Barrett are doing nothing about it. In fact, these three Republicans in Congress have previously supported the policies contributing to rising prices at the gas pump, but refuse to talk about it when confronted about it. Michigan Families for Fair Care will continue to hold our elected officials accountable for supporting economic policies impacting our working class families.
