John James Can't Bring Himself To Address the Health Care Crisis He Created
This week, Congressman John James’s office was asked about the shutdown, and instead of addressing people’s concerns, his office spokesperson played the blame game. Congressman James wants to talk about everything except the 34,000 people in his district who are about to see their health insurance premiums increase by nearly 60% on average when Open Enrollment begins this weekend—that's hundreds of dollars more every month for working families. James voted for the Republican Tax Law, which cut Medicaid and failed to address critical ACA tax credits which are set to expire, putting Michiganders in the center of a healthcare crisis.
“The facts are clear: if the enhanced premium tax credits expire, marketplace enrollees will see their annual premium payments increase astronomically. For the 34,000 people who need these health care tax credits in Michigan's 10th District, this isn't a political game—it's rent money, grocery money, and car payments they could have to sacrifice to keep their health insurance,” said Steve Lawson, Executive Director of Michigan Families for Fair Care. “It has been four weeks and Rep. James wants to rely on political rhetoric instead of actually addressing the real problem people are facing. Congressman James must act to make health care more affordable and reopen the government.
