Medicaid And ACA Enrollment Are Dropping After Barrett, Huizenga, And James Backed Health Care Cuts
Michiganders are losing health care coverage at an alarming rate after Congressmen Tom Barrett (MI-07), Bill Huizenga (MI-04), and John James (MI-10) backed policies that are making health care less affordable.
Medicaid enrollment in Michigan has already dropped, and 2027 is expected to bring steeper losses. The Republican Tax Law that Reps. Barrett, James, and Huizenga backed will strip coverage from even more people, leaving Michigan patients who depend on Medicaid struggling to get the care they need.
“My patients depend on Medicaid to afford the treatment they need, and these new rules that will kick people off of Medicaid are just cruel,” said Jeannette, a substance abuse counselor who lives in Michigan’s 4th Congressional District. “Patients struggling with addiction used to be able to rely on Medicaid or the Affordable Care Act, but my Congressman Bill Huizenga took both of those options away. I wish he would realize that families shouldn’t have to struggle so much to afford health care.”
Michigan has also seen an 18% decline in Affordable Care Act enrollment after Reps. Huizenga, James, and Barrett let health care tax credits expire, causing premiums to skyrocket. As a result, low-income Michiganders and those with pre-existing conditions are at risk of losing health insurance.
Michiganders shouldn’t have to choose between putting food on the table and being able to afford health care. Michigan Families for Fair Care is calling on Reps. James, Barrett, and Huizenga to reverse the harmful cuts and bring down health care costs for their constituents.
