Michigan Families for Fair Care Hosts Community Winter Coat & Food Drive in Warren

Michigan Families for Fair Care hosted a Community Clothing & Food Drive on Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, bringing together local residents to support neighbors facing affordability challenges. Community members donated winter clothing and non-perishable food items, which were distributed to families in need throughout Macomb County.

The event responded to growing concerns about the rising cost of everyday necessities, as families across Michigan's 10th Congressional District manage the fallout of tariffs and cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, which our elected official, Rep. John James, voted for. With many households struggling to afford basic needs given the recent rise in yearly expenses, amounting to more than $1,600 for Michigan families, the community drive provided essential winter items including coats, gloves, sweaters, and food supplies to local families.

“All of this right now is going to be broken up between three different orgs that are serving the homeless in our community. As well as making sure that we have kids in our school that don’t have to school without jackets.” said Macomb County Commissioner Michael Howard. “I just want to say thank you to everyone who participated in our clothes drive and we’re excited to go deliver this right now.”

Throughout the afternoon, volunteers collected and distributed donations to ensure neighbors had access to warm clothing and food during the winter months. The drive reflected a community-wide effort to support families navigating economic pressures. Michigan Families for Fair Care continues to educate residents about economic issues impacting local families and the importance of policies that support working families across the district.
