Tom Barrett Must Act To Make Health Care More Affordable
This week, Congressman Tom Barrett responded to our event urging him to support lowering health care costs for Michiganders. Michigan Families for Fair Care Executive Director Steve Lawson issued the following statement:
"Rep. Barrett says he's ‘open to discussing’ health care costs, we can set the date before he goes back to Washington. This year, he refused over 2,000 constituents who signed petitions asking for in-person town halls to have exactly that conversation. While Barrett claims he wants good faith dialogue, he voted for the Republican Tax Law, which terminates health care for millions and delivers massive tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy while letting ACA tax credits expire, without meeting with the people of his district. Families across Michigan are facing premium increases of hundreds or thousands of dollars per year, and the 7th congressional district deserves a congressman who will meet with them face-to-face, not one who hides behind carefully worded press statements. If Barrett truly cares about health care costs he needs to support plans to reverse their harmful health care cuts, prevent health care costs from rising even more, and reopen the government. Actions speak louder than words."
