After 26 Hours, Congressman John James Voted to Make Cuts to Medicaid

Today, after 26 hours of nonsense, Representative John James (MI-10) alongside his House Republican colleagues in the House Energy and Commerce Committee, voted to cut Medicaid, which would impact nearly 200,000 constituents in his district.

MI-10 constituent Rebecca Zainos issued the following statement ahead of the House vote on Medicaid cuts:

“As a Michigander on Medicaid, I am worried about the effect higher health care costs will have on my daily life. I am not alone in this struggle. Thousands of Michiganders with limited income could face really severe consequences if their premiums go up in price. Congressman James, you will decide if billions of dollars of health care funding will go to billionaires’ pockets instead. Congressman James, it was YOUR job to make sure that your constituents were protected, and yet you decided to still vote to make cuts to a program so many need just to finance tax breaks for billionaires.  We are calling on you NOW to vote against this on the floor; we are counting on you to do what’s best for working people, not corporations.”

During the committee hearing, Congressman James made claims that “Republicans are not cutting Medicaid,” even though the Trump administration has made it clear these cuts to Medicaid will be used to finance billions in tax breaks for billionaires. Now, hundreds of millions of dollars worth of cuts to Medicaid are headed to the House floor for a vote that will greatly impact the vulnerable.
