Chalk It Up to Fear: Barrett Hides From Constituents While Families Face Rising Costs

As Congressman Tom Barrett continues to refuse holding in-person town halls, his office claimed that U.S. Capitol Police instructed members of Congress not to host such events due to safety concerns—yet Barrett's office cannot provide any evidence of such guidance. Meanwhile, Congressman Barrett has been making surprise appearances at events not focused on the issues most of his constituents are dealing with, the rapidly growing costs and incoming health care crisis

"Congressman Barrett, now is not the time to hide. Throughout the year, we’ve been calling on Congressman Barrett to face his constituents at home and answer questions about why their healthcare costs are about to skyrocket, or why Thanksgiving is going to be so expensive this year. But whether we’re trying to meet in his office, or waiting for him to hold a town hall, Barrett refuses to show up." said Ashley Meyers, Lansing-area nurse and MI-07 resident. "Rep. Barrett needs to stop making excuses, and answer the people he represents about why he voted to cut their healthcare and food assistance while giving tax breaks to billionaires. His constituents deserve better, and now there is a discharge petition he can sign to extend the ACA tax credits and keep people’s premiums from skyrocketing. Congressman Barrett should sign this petition, and give the people of his district a chance."

Michigan Families for Fair Care has been committed to holding Congressman Barrett accountable for his votes and spreading the stories of constituents affected by his out-of-touch policies. Congressman Barrett should sign onto the ACA discharge petition to support a vote on extending health care tax credits.
