Reps. James and Barrett Need To Sign ACA Discharge Petition to Extend Tax Credits and Prevent Healthcare Crisis

As the healthcare crisis deepens with ACA premium tax credits set to expire at the end of the year, Michigan Families for Fair Care is calling on Congressmen John James (MI-10) and Tom Barrett (MI-07) to sign the discharge petition that would force a vote on extending health care tax credits and prevent a catastrophe for tens of thousands of Michigan families.

"Over 50,000 people across Michigan's 7th and 10th Districts are facing healthcare premiums that could more than double—an increase of $700 or more per month for many families. This isn't just about money; it's about lives. When people can't afford healthcare, they skip medications, delay treatment, and their conditions worsen. Some will die because they can't afford the care they need," said State Rep. Emily Dievendorf. "Congressmen James and Barrett have the power to prevent this crisis by signing the ACA discharge petition. This petition would force a vote to extend health care tax credits for several years and save lives. Both congressmen claim they care about healthcare affordability, but actions speak louder than words. It's time for them to prove it by signing this discharge petition immediately. Michigan families are counting on them, and delay means more people will lose access to lifesaving healthcare. Sign the petition now."

Without these tax credits, families will face impossible choices between paying for healthcare and paying for housing, food, and other basic necessities. Congressman Barrett has claimed in the past to be open to discussing solutions for this crisis, the time for action is fast approaching.
