Congressman John James: It’s Us Again, Please Do Not Vote For Medicaid Cuts, People’s Lives Are Depending On it

Representative John James (MI-10), alongside his House Republican colleagues, will vote on a bill that could make severe cuts to Medicaid, an essential program used by thousands of Michiganders. Congressman James has already made clear that he is in favor of these cuts, which could put people at risk of higher premiums or losing their health care coverage altogether to give more tax breaks to the wealthy and large corporations.

MI-10 constituent and Mount Clemens City Commissioner, Spencer Calhoun issued the following statement ahead of the House vote on Medicaid cuts:

“As someone who relied on Medicaid to help me survive as a child, I implore John James to change his position on Medicaid and not risk the health care of nearly 200,000 families in his district alone. This is needless cutting of important programs to fund excess tax breaks for the wealthy, the priorities on this issue are absurd, and you know it. House Republicans are considering pushing families off their health care and to the brink of financial collapse, which could have generational repercussions for decades, there is no reason we need to make these cuts. Congressman James, do not rip away health care from your constituents to fund these tax breaks for billionaires. You are gambling with people’s lives.”
