Constituents Are Telling Congressman Tom Barrett: “Do Not Vote For Cuts to Medicaid!”
As Representative Tom Barrett (MI-07) prepares to vote on Trump’s tax bill that could make severe cuts to Medicaid, impacting thousands of Michiganders, constituents are urging him not to put their health at risk for the sake of tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.
MI-07 constituent and veteran Sean McLaughlin issued the following statement ahead of the House vote on Medicaid cuts:
“I honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps infantry, and veterans like me deeply understand the value of being able to access their health care. For many families, Medicaid is the only way to access basic medical care. Weakening it would only worsen the already rising cost of living—when people are already being squeezed by high grocery prices, housing costs, and prescription drug bills. Congressman Tom Barrett has already undermined affordable health care, but it is not too late to stop these dangerous cuts. This moment calls for courage. Rep. Barrett must oppose this bill and its harmful cuts to Medicaid. Standing up for health care means standing up for working families, and the working families of Michigan urge Congressman Barrett to oppose these cuts to our nation’s vital lifeline.”
Barrett has already made clear that he is in favor of Medicaid cuts and potentially putting people at risk of higher premiums or losing their health care coverage altogether.
