Constituents Picket Congressman James Event, Demand He Support Healthcare Tax Credits Instead of Tax Breaks for Billionaires

Community members and advocates with Michigan Families for Fair Care picketed Congressman John James's event appearance to call on him to support health care tax credits for working families instead of prioritizing tax breaks for billionaires. Constituents held signs and shared their concerns about the congressman's vote for the Republican Tax Law that delivered massive tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy while cutting health care and allowing critical Affordable Care Act tax credits to expire, threatening to double healthcare premiums for tens of thousands of people in his district.

"Today we made it clear to Congressman James that his constituents are watching," said Ron Smith, MI-10 resident. "Working families in the 10th district can't afford to see their healthcare premiums increase by hundreds of dollars every month while James votes to give tax breaks to people who don't need them. He needs to support extending ACA tax credits permanently and stop prioritizing billionaires over the families he represents. Actions speak louder than words, and James's votes show exactly where his priorities lie."

Michigan Families for Fair Care had a mobile billboard calling out James for his support of billionaire tax cuts over addressing rising costs. Participants called on Congressman James to reverse course, support permanently extending health care tax credits, and meet with constituents to hear directly about how his votes are affecting working families in his district.
