It’s Your Birthday, John James, And Michigan Families Are Here To Wish For Accountability to Your Constituents

Today, Michigan Families for Fair Care and For Our Future Michigan held a birthday demonstration outside Rep. John James's Macomb County congressional office, calling on the congressman to be more accountable to his constituents and address the impact of his recent legislative decisions on Michigan families.

The protest, which coincided with Rep. James's belated birthday, drew residents from across Michigan's 10th Congressional District, who expressed frustration with the congressman's disconnect from the needs of working families in his district. The demonstration highlighted several key issues that Rep. James has failed to adequately address, including James' recent vote to cut Medicaid for tens of thousands of Michiganders, additional gutting of Medicare funding, which will drastically impact the elderly, and cuts to food accessibility programs in favor of tax cuts for billionaires.

Constituents have previously called on Rep. James to hold a town hall meeting in his district to directly hear from constituents about how his votes in Congress are affecting their daily lives. James has, so far, not held an in-district town hall meeting this year.

“[John James ]'s fealty to Donald Trump knows no bounds. There’s no red flag. There’s no red line that he won’t cross to accommodate this administration,” said MI-10 resident, Ron Smith. “This is probably the sixth or seventh time I've been here. James has never been anywhere to be found.”

The birthday protest was the latest in a series of actions by Michigan Families for Fair Care to hold Rep. James accountable for his voting record and to advocate for policies that better serve working families in Michigan's 10th Congressional District.
