“John James Is Living On A Different Planet” Michigan Small Business Owner Responds To His Tariff Claims
Congressman John James issued remarks claiming that tariffs are bringing investment back to the United States and protecting American workers and farmers, but for small business owners across Michigan’s 10th District, the reality couldn’t be further from the truth. Rep. James has consistently supported tariffs that are driving up costs for Michiganders, including voting against repealing Canadian tariffs that have placed a direct burden on Michigan’s small business owners and manufacturers. While James applauds the President’s trade agenda and talks about a “victory lap,” small businesses in his own district are being crushed by rising supply costs, shrinking margins, and customers who can no longer afford the everyday goods they need.
Alex, a small business owner in MI-10 issued the following statement regarding Congressman James’s remarks:
“Congressman John James is living on a different planet than his constituents. He said tariffs were bringing investment back to America and protecting workers, but from where I’m standing, they’re doing the exact opposite. As a small business owner in his district, I’ve watched my costs skyrocket on the supplies I need to keep my doors open. My customers are feeling it too, they’re cutting back because everything from groceries to household goods is more expensive. James talks about ‘getting a fair deal,’ but there’s nothing fair about forcing Michigan families and small businesses to foot the bill for illegal taxes they didn’t ask for. The families and small businesses of Michigan’s 10th District deserve a Congressman who fights for them, not one who cheers on policies that are pricing them out of their own livelihoods. If the government is collecting billions in tariff revenue on the backs of hardworking Americans, then that money needs to be refunded directly back to the American people.”
Michigan Families for Fair Care has launched a series of ads focused on tariffs raising costs on Michiganders as part of a seven figure accountability campaign across TV. These ads highlight real life Michiganders calling on their representatives John James and Tom Barrett to fight for lower costs before more families are priced out of their essential needs.
