Michigan Families For Fair Care Hosts “Priced Out at the Pump” Gas Card Giveaway in Lansing

On Tuesday, Michigan Families for Fair Care and Progress Michigan hosted “Priced Out at the Pump,” a free gas card giveaway in Lansing, to provide direct relief for families paying record high gas and diesel prices. Attendees received $25 gas cards and had the opportunity to talk with neighbors about what is driving the high prices.

In September, gas in Michigan hit its highest price per gallon since 2022, and diesel hit its highest ever price in the same month. From families driving their kids to school, to farmers and school buses relying on diesel, everyone is feeling the pain of many months of rising gas and diesel prices.

“In these times where everything feels increasingly unaffordable, I’m grateful to Michigan Families for Fair Care and Progress Michigan for helping families cover the high cost of gas,” said Sheila, who lives in MI-07. “As someone on a fixed income it can be hard to pay the bills as groceries, gas, and health care costs go up. I know so many of my neighbors are struggling with the same thing and it’s important that we come together as a community to support each other.”

The average family in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District has already paid an additional $772 for gas since the Iran War started. Congressman Tom Barrett, who represents MI-07, voted in July for a budget that would give over $70 billion to fund the war in Iran. With no end to the conflict in sight, families in MI-07 and across the state are concerned that the prices of gas and diesel will only continue to increase.
