Show Us The Money: While Michigan Families Struggle To Afford Groceries, Health Care, And Utility Bills, Barrett, James, And Huizenga Consider Bloated Military Spending
A new budget proposal out of the White House would deliver the largest increase in military spending in decades paid for by slashing the domestic programs that Michigan families depend on most.
“Families across Michigan’s 4th, 7th, and 10th Districts can’t afford their prescriptions, are skipping meals to stretch their grocery budgets, and are falling behind on utility bills. And now Republicans have to consider more cuts to the programs that help our country function, while asking to approve the largest military spending increase in a generation. Congressmen Barrett, James, and Huizenga have already voted to cut food assistance and let health care costs skyrocket for their own constituents.” said Ron, veteran and MI-10 resident “They have a choice. They can speak up for the people they represent and reject a budget that asks struggling families to sacrifice even more, or they can go along with the same wrong priorities that have already cost Michigan families so much. We’re asking them to choose their constituents. Congressmen Barrett, James, and Huizenga: tell Michigan families where you stand.”
The proposal asks Congress to approve a massive increase in military spending while cutting the funding that supports health care, housing, education, and other essential services for working families. These cuts come on top of the Republican Tax Law that Barrett, James, and Huizenga all voted for, which already delivered historic cuts to food assistance and put health care coverage at risk for thousands across their districts. Illegal tariffs they supported have further driven up costs for Michigan families who are already stretched thin. Michigan families are waiting to hear where their representatives stand.
Whether it is our roads, education, or support for small businesses, it is all on the chopping block in this budget. As families across Michigan’s 4th, 7th, and 10th Congressional Districts struggle to afford groceries, healthcare, and utility bills, Michigan Families for Fair Care is calling on Congressmen Tom Barrett, John James, and Bill Huizenga to stand up for their constituents and reject a budget that reflects the same wrong priorities they have supported all along.
