MICHIGAN SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS RESPOND TO CONGRESSMAN BARRETT’S LANSING SMALL BUSINESS TOUR
Congressman Tom Barrett joined SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler on a small business tour in Lansing, claiming that current trade policies are benefiting Michigan families and local shops. But for the small business owners and working families across Michigan’s 7th Congressional District who have spent the past year watching costs climb and their stability increasingly vanish, the tour rings hollow.
Barrett has consistently supported tariffs that have driven up costs for Lansing-area businesses and the families they serve; tariffs that the Supreme Court has since ruled were illegal. While he touts the benefits of these policies, small businesses across his district have been left footing the bill for his votes.
“Congressman Barrett can take all the tours he wants, but a photo op doesn’t change what small business owners in this district have been living through. While Barrett was cheering on these policies, families and businesses across MI-07 were paying more for the goods and supplies they depend on every single day. If Congressman Barrett actually wants to help the small businesses he toured, he’ll stop the spin, fight to end the tariffs that are still driving up costs, and give his constituents their money back,” said Steve, a former small business owner and current constituent of Congressman Barrett.
