Healthcare Workers and Medicaid Recipients Rally at Warren Hospital to Protect Medicaid From Rep. John James

Today, Michigan Families for Fair Care held a rally at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Warren Campus, bringing together healthcare workers, Medicaid recipients, and community advocates to condemn Representative John James's continued support for the GOP Tax Scam that threatens to gut Medicaid while providing tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy.

The demonstration highlighted the direct impact that Rep. James's harmful votes have on working families in Michigan's 10th Congressional District, where over 180,000 residents rely on Medicaid for essential healthcare services. The rally featured testimonials from frontline healthcare workers who witness daily how Medicaid cuts would devastate their patients and the broader community.

"Representative John James needs to do better by his constituents. Why would our own elected official vote to take healthcare away from children and seniors so that billionaires can get another tax break? People are going to die if these Medicaid cuts become a reality," said Rebecca Zainos, a Warren resident and Medicaid recipient. "John James needs to come home and explain to us why our lives matter less than his donors' bank accounts."

The GOP Tax Scam that Rep. James supports would force devastating cuts to Medicaid to pay for tax breaks benefiting the wealthiest Americans and the largest corporations. In Michigan's 10th Congressional District alone, these cuts would:

  • Risk healthcare coverage for over 180,000 residents

  • Impact over 60,000 minors who depend on Medicaid

  • Threaten healthcare access for over 20,000 elderly residents

  • Force up to 20 hospital closures and reduce essential services in Michigan

This rally comes as Congress continues to debate budget priorities, with Rep. James serving on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which has jurisdiction over healthcare policy. Community advocates are demanding that James use his position to protect Medicaid rather than push it towards the brink.
