Rep. Tom Barrett's Refuses To Side With Healthcare Workers and Medicaid Recipients As He Cuts Funding For Life-Saving Services
Today, Michigan Families for Fair Care held a rally at Sparrow Hospital, bringing together healthcare workers, Medicaid recipients, and community advocates to condemn Representative Tom Barrett's support for the GOP Tax Scam that threatens to gut Medicaid funding while providing tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy.
The GOP Tax Scam that Rep. Barrett supports would make devastating cuts to Medicaid in order to pay for tax breaks benefiting the wealthiest Americans and largest corporations. In Michigan's 7th Congressional District alone, these cuts would:
Risk healthcare coverage for over 75,000 residents across Ingham, Livingston, and surrounding counties
Impact thousands of children and families who depend on Medicaid
Threaten healthcare access for 15,000 elderly residents
Force hospital closures and reduce essential services in rural areas
"Medicaid isn't just about individual patients—it's about maintaining the healthcare infrastructure that serves our entire community," said former nurse, Medicaid recipient and MI-07 resident, Greta DeWolf. "When Medicaid funding gets slashed, hospitals struggle to stay open, especially in smaller communities. Rep. Barrett's support for these cuts shows he's completely out of touch with what his district needs."
