ICYMI: New Report Highlights Inflation And Prices Are On The Rise
Today, the latest Consumer Price Index report shows inflation continues to burden working families across the country. The report showed that over the past 12 months, the price of food at home increased, including poultry and fish, which rose by 5.2%, and eggs by a whopping 16.4%. Michiganders are being left to fend for themselves despite their Representatives, Tom Barrett (MI-07) and John James (MI-10), having had opportunities to support policies that would ease the cost-of-living crisis; they instead chose to prioritize corporate interests over their struggling constituents.
This comes at a time when the cost of medical and dental care has increased, while families prepare to pay hundreds more for their health insurance premiums. Despite these numbers, Congressmen James and Barrett have yet to show up in their districts for in-person town halls to address the elderly, veterans, and food bank organizers desperately in need of help from their elected leaders.
"Representatives Barrett and James talk about fiscal responsibility, but when it came to protecting Michigan families from rising costs, they were nowhere to be found," said Steve Lawson, Executive Director of Michigan Families for Fair Care. "This inflation increase is devastating for working class Michigan families who are already struggling to afford their monthly groceries. Every trip to the store costs more, and these representatives have consistently failed to support policies that would provide real relief, which is why we’ll continue to hold them accountable to the policies they choose to prioritize."
