Out-of-Touch Huizenga Calls the Economy "Reasonably Healthy" As Michigan Costs Keep Rising

Congressman Bill Huizenga once again proved he’s out of step in a recent interview last week where he downplayed the economic struggles of working families. He claimed that “statistically if you look where the economy is, it's reasonably healthy.” Well, Michiganders have some news for Congressman Huizenga: they are still feeling the pain with the high prices of gas, groceries, and healthcare.

Families in Michigan’s 4th District should expect to see another spike in gas prices following a delay on a deal in Iran. And it’s no different with healthcare, with a new survey showing that small businesses are reporting “double-digit increases” in premiums as inflation drives up costs. Meanwhile as we enter summer, high fuel prices are making for a slow start to the boating season.

Congressman Huizenga’s constituents are certainly not seeing the results of his supposedly “healthy” economy; they continue to contend with the fallout from the Iran War that Huizenga supported, and the consequences of Trump’s tariffs that Huizenga backed.

“As a small business owner, I can say firsthand that my business is hurting from the effects of tariffs,” said Brian, a MI-04 coffee shop owner. “Prices are going up for business owners all over, and Congressman Huizenga’s comments show just how out of touch he is. Instead of dismissing the struggles that families are feeling, he should be working to lower costs for families and businesses like mine.”
