You’ve Got Mail: This Medicaid Awareness Month, Michigan Families Remind Congressman Barrett About The Cost Of His Health Care Agenda
Congressman Tom Barrett recently emailed constituents claiming he is working to “lower the cost of care” and address rising health care costs. This Medicaid Awareness Month, that message rings hollow for the 135,000 MI-07 residents who rely on the program. While Barrett promotes health savings accounts and other market-based solutions, those proposals do nothing for families who depend on consistent, guaranteed coverage for life-saving care.
Rep. Barrett voted for the Republican Tax Law that includes the largest Medicaid cuts in history, putting coverage for over 170,000 Michiganders at risk and threatening hospitals and providers across the state. For families managing chronic conditions and complex medical needs, these cuts are not abstract policy decisions, they are immediate threats to their health and stability.
“I know what it means to depend on Medicaid, and I know that I’m not alone,” said Cynthia, a MI-07 Medicaid recipient and Congressman Barrett constituent. “When leaders choose tax breaks for the wealthy over protecting health care, families like mine are the ones who pay the price. We need Congressman Barrett to stand up for us and defend the care we rely on.”
