Congressman John James, Michiganders’ Lives Are In The Balance, Do Not Vote In Favor Of The GOP Tax Scam
Today, the Senate passed its own version of the Republican Tax Scam and is returning it to the House for final passage. In May, Representative John James (MI-10) voted for the GOP Tax Scam, but now he has another chance to do the right thing and vote against this bill. This most recent version of the bill affects the health care of 70 million elderly, low-income, or disabled Americans and positions 11 million people at the brink of being uninsured.
Constituents are urging Congressman James to change course and vote against the billions of dollars in cuts that could force hospital closures, increase nationwide hunger and put people at risk of losing their health care coverage just to give more tax breaks to the wealthy and large corporations.
MI-10 constituent and Mount Clemens City Commissioner, Spencer Calhoun issued the following statement as House Republicans prepare to vote in favor of Medicaid cuts:
"As someone who relied on Medicaid to help me survive as a child, I was disappointed when Rep. John James voted for these devastating Medicaid cuts that are putting the health care of 200,000 Michiganders in his district at risk. Now that the Senate has sent it back to the House, he has another chance to make this right. In April, I flew to meet with John James, but my request to discuss these serious concerns with him was dismissed and I was relegated elsewhere. Now, Michigan hospitals are at risk of closing because of these needless cuts that are funding excess tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy. Congressman James must change course and vote against putting families off their health care and to the brink of financial collapse. The effects of this bill could have generational consequences. Congressman James, don't vote to rip away health care from your constituents again and put Michigan hospitals at risk to fund these tax breaks for billionaires. Don't gamble with people's lives."
