ICYMI: Senate Republicans Double Down On Disastrous Health Care Agenda Championed By James And Barrett
The Senate Republican leadership's reconciliation proposal doubles down on the disastrous health care cuts championed by Congressmen John James (MI-10) and Tom Barrett (MI-7), threatening to strip health coverage from millions of Americans while dramatically raising costs for families across Michigan.
According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the Senate Republican leadership's reconciliation proposal would take health coverage away from millions of people and dramatically raise health care costs for millions more. The Senate plan mirrors the House approach by targeting Medicaid coverage, putting vulnerable Michigan families at risk of losing the health insurance they depend on for survival.
Additionally, like the House plan, the Senate is failing to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits which increases costs further for families and progressively leaves more and more people uninsured. There are several provisions in this disastrous bill that will increase monthly premiums. Michiganders are facing dire health care challenges as Republicans plan to raise monthly bills by hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.
“Both James and Barrett have consistently voted to gut health care programs that serve their own constituents, prioritizing tax breaks for the wealthy over protecting Michigan families from financial destruction.” said Steve Lawson, Executive Director for Michigan Families for Fair Care. “As the Senate moves forward with this destructive agenda, Michigan families in MI-7 and MI-10 will face the harsh reality that their representatives chose partisan politics over their health and financial security.”
