NEW AD FEATURES MI-04 RESIDENT CALLING OUT CONGRESSMAN BILL HUIZENGA FOR SUPPORTING CUTS TO HEALTH CARE THAT THREATEN SENIORS AND FAMILIES

Michigan Families for Fair Care premiered a new ad on Wednesday, featuring Mary Jo, a resident of Michigan’s 4th Congressional District, sharing how Congressman Bill Huizenga’s votes in Congress have threatened health care coverage for seniors and working families across the district.

The ad, “Mary Jo,” features a MI-04 resident and stroke survivor who has relied on Medicare since 2013 to manage the ongoing health care needs that followed. Mary Jo explains how the health care policies Congressman Huizenga has supported have put the coverage she and thousands of her neighbors depend on at risk. Huizenga voted for the Republican Tax Law, which enacted the largest cuts to Medicaid in program history, threatening health coverage for hundreds of thousands of Michigan residents, while delivering billions in new tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy. For seniors and people with serious health conditions across the 4th District, these are not abstract policy debates. They are decisions that determine whether families can afford the care they need to survive.

“In 2013, I had a stroke. Medicare is the reason I’m still here and still able to care for myself. When I hear that Congressman Huizenga voted for a law that cuts health care to pay for tax breaks for billionaires, I have to ask, who is he really working for?” said Mary Jo, MI-04 resident and Medicare recipient. “I can’t afford it if my health care were to go up, I couldn’t afford it when gas and groceries went up in price. Neither can my neighbors, my friends, the people across this district who are already stretched thin. Congressman Huizenga, stop voting to cut our health care. We are counting on you to fight for us, not against us.”

The ad is part of a campaign to hold Congressman Bill Huizenga accountable for his votes in Congress and his support of policies that have made health care more expensive and less accessible for working families and seniors across Michigan’s 4th Congressional District.

MARY JO:

“I had a stroke in 2013. I can’t do everything I used to. I can listen to my true crime podcasts though.

I rely on them to keep me entertained. For health care, I rely on Medicare.

Bill Huizenga voted to cut Medicare to give tax breaks to billionaires. Everything is getting so expensive already. I can’t afford for my health care costs to go up too.

There’s no mystery here. Bill Huizenga should stand up for Michiganders like me and stop voting to cut Medicare.”
